In cooperation with Software Institute for Rural Development, Vanarai has developed novel software solutions for various Government projects aimed at Rural Development. This has been highly appreciated by the Planning Commission and several Ministries of Central Government and by many states. Most of the states in the country have now started using software developed by Vanarai. As a result the name of Vanarai has reached almost all parts of the country. The sectors for which the software has been developed are: - (a) Soil and Water Conservation through Watershed Development, (b) Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation, (c) Agriculture, Environment, Afforestation, Education and Health, (d) Bio-diesel plantations. |

| Vanarai Watershed A tO Z Software: |

All over the country Watershed Development Projects are under implementation through the funding of the Govt. of India. In every macro watershed, there are some mini watersheds and each watershed project has a number of watershed structures or treatments (also called interventions) depending upon the slope of the land and other factors. Every watershed project requires run-off calculation, run-off budgeting and cost budgeting of the watershed. This is followed by the preparation of the Action Planî.
Traditionally, estimates of the Watershed Development with the help of calculators etc. requires at least 6 months. However, Vanarai, in collaboration with Watershed Technology and Management Institute developed the Watershed A to Z Software which can accomplish the task in less than a weekís time. The cost of preparation has come down from more than Rs.80,000/- to around Rs.5,000/- per project.
This indigenously developed technology meets the requirement of grass root level functionaries. Moreover it draws complicated contour maps using the cost effective Visual Basic based software instead of the expensive Autocad software. Hence, detailed estimation of every Land and Drainage line structure can be done in a few days instead of 4 to 5 months. Some of its advantages are listed below:

Software solutions to Increase Rural Employment and Enhance Village Income
It has been observed that people in rural areas carry out farming and Agro-business activities according to the methods that have been passed on to them by their elders. While preparing project reports for Bank loans, they seek help from local agents, who may or may not be well qualified to advise the farmer.
Vanarai Trust and the Software Institute for Rural Development designed software that would provide scientific knowledge regarding proper seeds, crop variety saplings, nutrients and other requirements with due consideration to soil type, rainfall, and weather conditions in that region. This knowledge would be obtained from the regional Universities and other creditable Agriculture related institutions.
The main objective of the software is to educate rural people, providing them correct inputs for selection of proper Agri-business activities and preparation of the correct project proposals. The implicit objective is to speed up implementation of the projects for poverty alleviation and Rural Development.
With the help of Information Technology, customized software would be developed to disseminate the knowledge and also help in the preparation of reports pertaining to the specific needs of the farmer.
The scope of the project is very vast. Starting with the Knowledge Database creation and preparation of user specific project proposals for 50-60 activities, it would eventually be positioned as ‘On-line Counselling’ software with a fleet of subject experts providing guidance to the farming community on a dynamic basis.

Education Management Information System (Education MIS) is a software solution which helps schools to manage information and serve their higher authorities better and faster. With the help of Education MIS, schools can provide information with drastically improved response time.
Education Department uses hierarchy to monitor all schools within the Corporation. Hence, Education MIS maintains the same hierarchy and carries the information from one level to another. The information provided by ‘Education MIS’ is based on the roles and privileges given to the users.
Education MIS links all levels of the hierarchy to one another for accomplishing the task of Information Sharing. The solution gives a control to higher authorities to monitor schools’ processes and progress. At the same time, it assists in maintaining employee information along with their service record, payment and other information fast (in seconds instead of hours or days) and provide quick tentative service.
Most importantly, it would relieve the teachers of administrative workload and enable them to focus more on the main task of imparting Education to students. |
