| During this function, Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch of three villages namely Gawadewadi from Pune District, Varandh from Raigad District and a small village Zari from Latur District will be felicitated. They have been successful in multifarious activities like – Afforestation, Soil and Water Conservation through Scientific Watershed Management, Dairy Development, Horticulture, Vermi-culture, Total Literacy, Charai Bandi (No uncontrolled grazing), Kurhad Bandi (No illicit cutting of trees), Nasha Bandi (No to Alcohol), Nas Bandi (Family Planning) etc. All these activities have led to Vanarai’s key objective – “Reverse Migration”. This was possible because the villagers treated development above politics. 165 families have returned back to Gawadewadi, 65 to Varandh and 10 to Zari (a small village in Marathwada). I was active in politics and my name was regarded in the country as “Leader of Young Turk”. After the fall of Janata Government, I had a feeling that we have cheated the people and decided to form Vanarai during 1982-83. It was registered on 10th July 1986 when I was sure of success. Vanarai is implementing various activities like – Making waste lands productive, Taking EGS to the farmers, Joint Forestry Management (JFM), Collaboration with Corporate Sector, Development of villages, Reverse Migration, Vanarai Bunds, Workshops & Seminars, Confederation of NGOs of Rural India (CNRI), Software for Rural Development, Distribution of plants to farmers, Porpagation of Family Planning, Self-help Groups (SHGs), Eco-clubs, Public Sanitation, Informative booklets. This has given impetus to village development in the country.
Recently Vanarai has taken up a massive programme to plant bio-diesel producing plants for self-reliant India to replace imported crude oil. Vanarai project is being treated as a Role Model for village development. Many State Governments and the Central Government of India have adopted the Vanarai Model of Development. |
